I have a really good idea for an ice cream flavor, but I can't tell you or you'll steal it, but how can I get this idea like "patented" or whatever it would be with ice cream, and get a company to make it, if i just tell a company they will steal it and i'll still be broke and get no credit for thinking of it, but i want the credit and partial profits

Answer
You can patent inventions that are "new", "inventive" usefull and "industrially applicable".

To apply for a patent you need to provide a lot of documentation, to prove that this is the case, and it is a quite expensive process.

If you could patent an ice cream flavor, I would try to ensure that there was interest in my idea before paying for a patent.

However - I don't think you can "patent" an icecream flavor, because it is just a twist on icecream - which has already been invented and isn't considered "new". Also you cannot restirct the use of an ingedient.

Perhaps you could copywrite your idea. To do this you would first neeed to come up with a recipe for your ice cream, and you could copy write that - although that would not prevent someone else from adapting your recipe and making somthing similar, but ever so slightly different.

Normally when people want to protect recipes they resort to keeping the recipe a secret - like coca cola's secret ingredient, or the recipe for the sacher torte made in vienna's hotel sacher.
