If you get a recipe for a good vanilla ice cream, you can use that as a basis for a lot of other fun variations. I made ice cream last summer, and by adding mint and chips, I turned vanilla into mint chocolate chip. It's also easy to add different types of fresh fruit to vanilla and make fruit flavors.
