Is there a market for it?

Answer
i'd get a spade shovel and a 12" ruler. i'd run the ruler around the bottom of the tree to make a 24" circle outline.

get the shovel and a pair of boots on, hold the shovel so the blade is vertical, put it on the line, and then jump on it! do this the whole lines worth.

after ya get your outline shoveled go back in with the blade of the shovel about 8" down into the "cut" you already made, then angle the bladedown and in towards the center of your circle.

usually only 8-10 inches of top soil. then it'll be a clay. roots dont normally grow into clay, so what your doing is sorta like a big industrial ice cream scooper deal. your tree is the sprinkles, and the root ball is the ice cream. try not to knock the sprinkles off the ice cream as your scoopin it up...be gentle but firm.

then youd lay the dug up tree and its root ball on a spread out burlap. about 4' x 4' piece of burlap will work. and get some old coat hanger. make 2" lenghts of coat hanger. these will be your "staples" to hold the bag scrunched up onto itself. a pair of pliers and just horseshoe the coathanger, thread it through the folds of the burlap, and bend closed.

i've seen a 2 year old maple go anywhere from 15 bucks to 100 bucks.

go to some local landscape stores and check out thier prices and thier root ball burlap wrap techniques. get ideas.

have fun!
