How can I prepare Kale for smoothies if I don't have a juicer?

I'm thinking that if I finely chop it and bland it with water and chia seeds it will break down enough for smoothies. I also have a cuisinart I can use.

I shred it pour hot water on it, blend and allow the juice to sit, I use the pulp for soups and the liquid in my smoothies and juice mixes, you can blend it with cold water and strain but I find the way I do it you get more flavour.
