Is black ice formed from water and white ice from snow? Is black ice slipperier than the white?

Answer
White ice is compacted snow, even under its own weight. A snow ball in white ice.

Black ice is snow that has melted and then refrozen as in a sheet of ice. It looks like just a wet area.

If you are driving and accidentally hit a bank of snow - white ice you will suddenly loose speed, you can stand with confidence on white ice.

Driving along and into black ice your steering won't respond and the brakes won't work because the tires are not able to grip the ice.

Hope that explains both to you ok
