Is there such thing as a military consultant?

For a few months now I've been struggling over which branch of military I should go into. So my question is, is there a person I can go to talk to who will give me the ups and downs of each branch? Cause I've talked with recruiters and alls I ever hear from them is that that particular branch is nothing but ice cream and lollipops.
