serve ice cream bowls image
Third Chil
I would like to serve the ice cream in a ball form. Any ideas on how to freeze the balls? Should I make the balls, place on cookie sheets to freeze, and take them out on the day of the event and place in a glass bowl?
Has anyone tried this?
Answer
I know what you're talking about you use a regular ice cream scoop and make the ice cream balls the best you can and you cut large squares of wax paper and using the wax paper as a liner you make the ice cream into a tight ball.
Then you wrap the wax paper all the way around it to hold the shape and once you have all these balls made you don't just sit them in the freezer you put the wax balls into a zip lock gallon size bag(s)and leave them sit overnight or for a couple days then right before the gathering you unwrap
all the balls and put them in the container your going to serve on and chill in the freezer again until about ten- fifteen minutes before they're going to be eatten.
This way you can even mix the kinds of ice cream you serve. At our fourth of July party I had bubble gum, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry all going in the same bowl.
They were all served out before they started to melt.
The wax maintains a tight ball while they freeze into shape and the the wax and plastic combined make them easier to handle and keeps freezer smells from getting to the ice cream.
Hint:its the same technique for making cookie ice cream
sandwiches.
