Just a vanilla ice cream recipe will do. I dont have an ice cream maker but want to give it a go. ive heard its tough but ill give it a shot anyway!

Answer
Actually it is like making chocolate mousse but you freeze it, I have made it to see the results, I make many types even the Kulfi one the other person mentioned with out a machine, it does involve using a bit more sugar, a bit of gelatin and folding the whipped cream into your custard base, but it can be done, when serving you just take it out for 5-10 minute to soften then scoop it into dishes or cones

What's involved in an ice-cream van business? E.g. where to get ice-cream, what machines are needed etc.?

I need to create a business for a school project (only theoretically), and I was just wondering about some of the processes involved in running an ice-cream van business. For example,
1. What machines are needed to create the goods? (soft serve ice-cream, mainly).
2. Where do I get the ingredients etc. to create the ice-cream?
3. Where do I get the cones/waffle cones from? Like, super markets or directly from factories that produce the cones?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
1. Firstly you need a nice white van with a nice bell for all the kiddies. Nice amount of space in the back of the van for unrelated purposes... Continuing, you need duh soft serve ice cream as duh kiddies love dat stuff, mainly chocolate because everyone wants to get fat these days.

2. You can get your ingredients from your local dealer. They are usually located in industrial areas as they are distributers. You might want to look for better prices from old mate at your local bar, he knows more then anyone else!

3. Get the cones from duh same place.

i was thinking about this today when i had one of those wonderful vanilla cones (with are more like cylinders) from Mcdonalds.
where and when did they begin putting ice cream in cones and who thought of it?

Answer
It sounds like you're talking about the 'sugar' cone. They're typically cylinder, but also come in cone shape, and sold at McDonald's (as I've seen them there...). Waffle cones are more "cone" like.

Per this article, http://inventors.about.com/od/foodrelatedinventions/a/ice_cream_cone.htm , here's what's known about the history of the ice cream cone:

The walk-away edible ice cream cone made its American debut at the 1904 Saint Louis World's Fair. Ice cream in a cone was served up by several vendors at the Fair. Nobody know for certain who made the first ice cream cone. Paper and metal cones had been used in Europe for some time to hold ice cream and it was known that edible cones were being served in England prior to the 1904 World's Fair.

Lebanese immigrant, Abe Doumar built one of the first machines in the United States for making ice cream cones. Doumar created waffle type cones by adapting a waffle iron into a cone oven. However, Doumar did not make his first cone oven until after the World's Fair.

Hope this helps!
