Whether it be commercially made or home made ice cream is a cooked base with sugar cream and eggs and is frozen , whipped with air to make it smooth and creamy. Gelato is a milk based product, does NOT have eggs, is not generally cooked it is a most softer consistency and is lighter in texture, it is not the SAME as ice cream, I was a professional chef, I made both and have a friend here in Ontario Canada who owns and runs a small gelato and ice cream business, I know the facts, thumbs down welcomed....
